I’m just going to embrace it. I love doing things like this in community. So here goes: Anybody interested in going through this book, “Sacred Self-Care: Daily practices for nurturing our whole selves” by Dr. Chanequa Walker-Barnes with me (and possibly a very small group of others – no more than 6)?

I want to check out this book for several reasons… I’ll share mine later. But you can check out this book for yourself here to discern if this is something for you in this season. (Note: I haven’t gone through this book before or anything by this author yet – so we will go through this resource for the first time, together!)

“Sacred Self-Care: Daily practices for nurturing our whole selves” by Dr. Chanequa Walker-Barnes.

The book’s format-

If you complete the whole book with me- it is 7 weeks long (49 days). Each day, you’re invited to read 2.5-3 pages with a brief activity at the end to try. On the 7th day, it’s shorter with a bit of a liturgy including Scripture, reflection, African American hymn (ideas here), prayer, and benediction.

Who’s invited?

Anybody that can purchase/access the book and wants to go through it in community. In community to me means a willingness to make space for other responses to the material and a desire to share one’s own with others. Any faith. Any gender. Any age. Any, any, anybody as long as you’re interested in this topic and desire to share together a bit of how you’re journeying through these prompts.

What’s the hope?

For me the hope and expectation is to have community accountability so that I can keep up with the book even in busy seasons. I want to broaden my perspectives by learning from my own reflections each day and from each of you as we share. I am hopeful for a diverse group of souls to commit to joining in with me using this book on self-care and in this 2023-2024 season.

When will this start?

Because the book is formatted for 7 weeks, know that our community journeying will continue into 2024. I’m flexible but aiming to start the first Monday in December (4 December) with Day 1. I’d like to connect weekly as a group via Zoom for 1hr to share briefly about our experiences and check in (or something else that works best for us). If possible, I’d like to try and find a way/and time to connect next Sunday, 3 Dec, briefly to say hello and see if anyone has any questions.

I’m interested, what’s next?

Contact me here privately to let me know or email me at sejanashines@gmail.com . I’d love to hear if you’re already familiar with this book or the author. And, if you’re ready, what are your hopes as you join in with me in this season.

I’m interested but I’m not sure…

Reach out! Maybe some of your concerns can be addressed. Or maybe this isn’t the right season for you. Either way, let me know how I can help.

Looking forward to this! Sincerely,

Sejana
