What do you want from God? Wow. What a question. Here is the text but as you read it, ask yourself, do you think that Jesus DID NOT KNOW what the man wanted? Of course he knew. So… Why did He ask him, “What do you want me to do for you?” If Jesus asked YOU that question, what would you say?
Do you think He already knows?
Yet, why does He ask?
“And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” And stopping, Jesus called them and said, “What do you want me to do for you?” They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.”Matthew 20:30β-β¬33 ESVhttps://bible.com/bible/59/mat.20.30-33.ESV

Sometimes I ask my young teens questions. I feel like I know them so I can guess what they will say but I still ask (and sometimes I’m surprised by their responses!). I engage them with questions because I want to know what they will say to see/hear where their mind and heart is at. Do THEY even know what’s up with themselves?!?!? I love them and want to help them even though they certainly do not get everything they ask for or long for from me. Sometimes it is not the right time or they are not ready or maybe what they want is coming or seriously, sometimes (many times) they are just plain focused on the wrong things- temporary things- and I can see it so clearly just because I’ve lived longer and am older and much wiser (I was there too though so I get it).
BUT GOD… He knows wayyy more than I do about me and about our children. Jesus doesn’t have an ‘idea’ about the state of their heart and mind HE KNOWS EXACTLY what’s in there (probably more than WE do!). And He has plans for them and for me. He knew us even before our parents knew us. And He already gave His life for us showing that He loves us … but what do we want?
So Jesus asked the question straight out – “What do you want me to do for you?“

Take a moment today and think about that. What would you say to Jesus right now today if He asked you that question? How would you respond? What would I say?
I’m going to write down my answer later today when I’m riding the subway. I want to see what I come up with. I don’t want to write the typical answer of what I think would be the best response to a question like that but instead I want to take the time to be really honest and clear.
Do I even know what I want?
Let’s dream with God today.

I love this post! Lately because of this pandemic and being unemployed I have had lots of time to think through what I would ask and daily my ask was please, just help me do today, one step at a time. And He has done that for me and so much more. He calmed the storm inside of me! Thank you!
Well that is amazing! Thank you for sharing what is going on with you as well. I wonder would you dare ask God for more than just today’s needs ? Maybe the character, perseverance, trust, faith is already being refined even now in this difficult season for whatever will lie ahead.? I say this while thinking of Abraham preparing to sacrifice Isaiah…or Joseph in prison …waiting but ultimately trusting in God. Just thoughts.
I might dare to ask for more at some point. But to be honest I am rebuilding my relationship with Him. I pulled away from Him because of an incredibly difficult season I was going through and it seemed as though He was strangely absent through it all. Mentally I know that this is not true but my heart is still mending.
There is a talk that I wanted to blog about one day…but that day might not come anytime soon with all the other things I have going on. Let me see if I can share that testimony here with you. I think of it because he also felt abandoned by God for quite a while. Just a moment to find it. And also I think it is so brave of you to share that here. Have we connected via FB or IG yet? I post more there…but anyway…just a moment
No we havenβt connected anywhere else
Unfortunately the specific talk isn’t available right now it seems. But I am going to try again on my computer and see if it comes up. I have heard other talks by this person but it was not the same as this one. Hmmm. I’m sorry. Thanks for connecting with me today. I will pray for and with you Diane.
Thank you very much
Hi Diane, It’s been a LONG time but guess what? I found that video I mentioned in our thread a while ago. It was linked in a blog I wrote about “An unexpected journey.” I wanted to share, just in case you see this. https://www.ihopkc.org/resources/asset/2019_12_06_1930_MSG_FC/auto/true/ I’m not sure how it will resonate now, many months later but this conversation came to mind and so I wanted to follow through.

That is a great question. We probably will never know the answer while we are here on earth. But when we get to heaven all things will be revealed.
Thanks for reading and commenting! Yes later we will know more and will be overwhelmed by God’s presence for sure. But at that moment, Jesus asked him that question and according to the text he didn’t have to wait. He experienced his “answer” right there! So it makes me want to consider this question for right now. How would I respond right now?
