Hear a personal testimony from my time of struggle and transition in leadership. Hear how God reveals Godself and offers next steps to busy leaders from two examples in our Bible – one from the Old and one from the New Testament. Consider how one leader’s prayers for themselves and for their work impacted their entire organization. Is there an invitation for you sparked by this message today? Watch my latest sermon preached on 1 March 2026 called “What are you doing? Come with me to a quiet place.” from 1 Kings 19:11-13; Mark 6:30-32 linked below.
I preached this sermon for the Young Adult Ministries (YAM) English speaking college ministry of The Lord’s Church in Waco (TLCW). The Lord’s Church Waco is located in Waco, Texas, about a 40 minute drive from my home in Temple.

1 Kings 19:11-13 NIV
11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Mark 6:30-32
30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
32 So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.
Prayer (shared here)
May the God who called Moses up the mountain, who met Elijah in the whisper and who drew Jesus into quiet places, grant you the courage to step away.
May you notice the signals of your own soul.
May you see the patterns that lead you toward life and take the brave action step of choosing rest.
May solitude become not an escape, but a meeting place where the (Divine) Father restores you, the (Holy) Son walks with you and the Spirit breathes peace into you.
Go now in that courage and in that rest.
Amen.
Benediction
May the Lord bless you with holy courage— courage to pull away, courage to rest, courage to be renewed. May His presence meet you in the quiet and send you back whole. (And may we remember the invitation to do this together.) Amen.

Preaching Tips Background Video
Leadership is certainly a major topic for me and always has been. (Is it because I’m the firstborn? Or because of my young adult years fully immersed in Army Values and taking to heart the responsibilities of leadership?) Anyway this video share is about leadership, my preaching tip of ‘practice what you preach and preach what you practice’ and a prayer for all of us who are busy to remember that God does offer us a way forward. May we all lean into that way of Christ by sharing where we are so that God may use it to help someone else. May you be blessed!
Do share with me what resonates with you, in your particular roles of ministry (or however you’ve come to find this particular video)! Thanks!
