Salt & Light – Empowered by Jesus sermon from Matthew 5

Jesus used everyday things, everyday objects, everyday life matters in his teaching so that the people could relate and understand the Lord’s way of living and being in the kingdom of God. Jesus empowered his followers by calling them out as ‘salt’ and as ‘light’ in the world, giving them purpose. How do we live out this purpose today? I preach this sermon from Matthew 5:13-16 for my home church were I serve as the Connections Pastor at Impact Temple Church, in Temple, Texas located about an hour north of Austin and 2 hours south of Dallas/Fort Worth.

Tune in below to watch a recording of the sermon (or as a podcast) and scroll down even further to watch my ‘After Sermon Preaching Tips‘ video where I’m keeping up my routine of sharing a few thoughts after I preach (right before I walk back into my home from my car!).

I am always hopeful that these offerings would bless and encourage you in your own journey with God and in your ministry of service to others. Feel free to reach out to me or leave a comment below, anytime. Blessings and peace!

Matthew 5:13-16 (NIV)

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Sermon Summary (according to ChatGPT!)

Actually I was GOING to share a summary like I’ve been doing for my last several sermons using ChatGPT. But, when I tried it just now using the YouTube link from my sermon like it asked me to (which is a different process than I used before as before I would upload my sermon manuscript into ChatGPT) it gave me a nice summary. BUT, this was a summary of what it ASSUMED I said – as if I said it – but I didn’t! No Thank You ChatGPT!

I’ll just do without. I feel like it tried to play me, but I know what I preached and that was not it! Try it out, but be sure to check out what it gives you – when using A.I. folks!

Preaching Tips Background Video

In this video, I share that it’s been a while since I preached (about a month and a half) and what happened that helped me to consider another way of doing things in the future. Check it out!

I’d love to hear what resonates with you, in your particular roles of ministry (or however you’ve come to find this particular video)!
