Thank you for your donations for Brownsville

I’ve posted these THANK YOU’s on social media and in personal messages to donors but I want to put it here too so that others would know how things turned out from my initial request for support.

Posted on social media June 9th, 2024:

I appreciated all the help and support I received from each person and organization that contributed to my 5+ week internship with our Fellowship Southwest (FSW) partner in Brownsville, Texas.

Thank you for trusting me! Every donation got personally delivered. I’ll share a pic soon. I’ve even got to see many of the items given away and used already!

Follow my journey as I’ll be sharing a few things in various places: social media @sejanashines on IG & FB and my blog http://www.sejanashines.com .

Thank you for the comments and questions I’ve already received via direct messaging about the border, immigration, and migrants or migrant care. I know this is a tough topic – that’s why I applied and interviewed to come here and see for myself what’s happening as I reflect on how might I respond as a person of faith (and a fellow human being). Let’s keep in touch and keep the conversation going!

Blessings and peace to you,

Sejana

I can’t thank you enough! We were invited by the Director of Programs & Outreach, Anyra @fellowshipsouthwest to ask our networks for donations.

Truthfully, I would have preferred to have kept it quiet, but several responded once I actually started sharing what I was doing and where I was going to multiple people and networks in different formats.

I shared through my school @truettseminary. I put the word out at my church @firsttemple (pictured is Pastor Jones- we met a few hours before the tornado hit our city!). My life group “Open Arms” and the prayer team led by Linda and John added my request to the announcements and prayer list. (Thank you Linda & John, Lela, and others unknown who donated items!)

Thank you to my peers at work **multiple** Chaplains at @bswhealth in the Temple Memorial Pastoral Care Department who gathered many items from their networks. Thank you!

Thank you to the Faith In Action Initiative of BSWH (shared with me by one of my bosses, Chaplain Dan, Supervisor of the Digital Spiritual Care Team). I didn’t realize I could pick up items from them but because I was working for a nonprofit, I could. FIA donates unwanted and useable medical items and supplies to other nonprofits all over the world.

Thank you to my friends who gave and asked their family networks for donations too, like Octavia and others unnamed.

Thank you to @raychomsy who gathered many items from her networks and place of work at @bayloruniversity when she read my announcement in Truett Times.

Thank you to @kate_rojales who heard me share at the Graduate Panel during our last lunch together for the semester. She’s been here to Brownsville before and was moved to give again.

Thank you to several people in my Friday Night Game Night group at @meadowoaksbaptistchurch David, Jeanie, and Carol Sue! I missed you guys my first Friday night here- but guess what?? I was able to teach and play some games with a teen who didn’t speak English through Google Translate. 😜🎉

Thank you!

🙏 Please pray as I write my FSW article!
